    Appointed as President Commissioner in May 2006. Currently, he also serves as Chairman and Director of Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd., Chairman and Director of Kumpulan Fima Berhad, Director of Post Malaysia Berhad, and Director of Mewah International Inc. (MII) Singapore. He formerly served as Chairman and Director in Group Telekom Malaysia Berhad from July 1999 until July 2009. He graduated with a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Faraday House Engineering College, London (1962) and a Masters degree in Science (Technological Economics) from the University of Stirling, Scotland (1975). He has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry spanning more than 40 years.

    Appointed as Commissioner in July 2008, he currently holds the position of President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Axiata Group Berhad ("Axiata") and has done so since March 2008. He is also a Board Member of Axiata and Chairman of Celcom Axiata Berhad. His previous experience includes prominent positions with Maxis Communications Berhad, which he joined in 1997 as Chief Operating Officer, subsequently becoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 1998; he was reappointed as the Group CEO in 2006. He retired from Maxis in July 2007 but remained a Board member until February 2008. Before joining Maxis, he spent 16 years in the IT Industry. He was a Managing Director and CEO of Digital Equipment for 4 years and spent 12 years in IBM. He graduated from California State University, USA in 1978 with Bachelor of Science degree, Major in Business Administration and Minor in Mathematics; and in 1980 he was awarded a Master of Business Administration, Major in Quantitative Method, from Portland State University, Oregon, USA.

    Appointed as Commissioner in April 2008, he has over 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry. He graduated from Gonzaga University, Washington, USA, in 1985 with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and Computer Science. He has been the Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) of Etisalat, a telecommunications company based in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), since 2006. He has held several key positions in Etisalat since 1986, has been actively involved in Etisalat Group's major projects. He is also Director of several Boards and serves on the Board of several leading companies in the Region.

  • Dr. Muhamad Chatib Basri

    Appointed as Commissioner in April 2011, currently he is Senior Partner and Co-Founder of CReco Research Institute and serves as Independent Commissioner in various leading companies such as PT Astra International Tbk, PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, PT Indika Energy Tbk, PT Semen Gresik Tbk. and Independent Non-Executive Director of Axiata Group Berhad, Malaysia. Since 2010, he was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Committee on National Economy and is a consultant in several international organizations such as: World Bank, ADB, USAID, AUSAID, the OECD and UNCTAD. He has also actively a member of the Advisory Group for Asia Pacific Fund, the International Steering Committee PAFTAD (Pacific Trade and Development Conference) and the Toyota Regional Advisory Board. In 2004-2009 served as chairman of LPEM (Institute for Economic and Community) – University of Indonesia (UI). He holds a Master of Economic Development in 1996 and a PhD in economics from the Australian National University in 2001.

    James Maclaurin is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (qualified 1992) and holds degrees in Engineering and Finance from the Universities of Dundee and Heriot Watt in Edinburgh respectively.
    James has worked in the telecommunications industry for 15 years and has held a number of senior finance leadership positions including CFO for Africa and Central Europe at Vodafone, Group CFO of Celtel, the pan-African mobile operator, CFO of UbiNetics, the 3G technology developer and EVP Finance of Marconi, the UK based telecoms vendor subsequently sold to Ericsson. In the mid 90's James worked in Asia and served as the FD of General Electric Co of Singapore and prior to this James was the Finance Director of the General Electric Co of Bangladesh.
    James was appointed Group Chief Financial Officer of Axiata Group Berhad on 25th April 2011. He also serves as a Board member of a number of companies within the Axiata Group.

He graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985with a Bachelor of Business. He has more than 20 years experience in the finance and telecommunications industries, gaining him appointments to a number of important positions in various international companies. Presently, he also holds position as Managing Director and Company Director of Rajawali Corpora since 2005.

He graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1964 with an Engineering degree, majoring in Construction, and obtained his Master of Science in Engineering – Mechanical Engineering (MSEME) from the University of Michigan, USA in 1966, and Doctorate in Technical Science from ITB in 2005. He served as Indonesia's Minister of Communications in the Cabinet of Development VII and the Cabinet of Development Reform in 1998 to 1999; and as the Director General of Land Transportation from1984 to 1991. He is currently also a Senior Advisor to PT Jababeka Tbk., and as a senior lecturer at the faculty of Industrial Technology at ITB.

He has over 20 years of extensive experience in sales, marketing and information technology; having held various key management positions in a number of prominent companies, including Director of Marketing at PT Digital Astra Nusantara and PT Compaq Computer Indonesia, and President Director of PT Hewlett-Packard Indonesia. Currently, he is Director of Finance of PT Garuda Indonesia and also a Commissioner of PT Gapura Angkasa.

Experienced for 16 years in the capital market research in various securities companies, among others, PT Bahana Securities and PT Nomura Indonesia. Last served as Director, Analytical Manager and Team Leader - South and Southeast Asian Corporate and Infrastructure Ratings at Standard & Poor's Credit Market Services, Singapore. She holds a Bachelor degree of Business Administration with concentration in International Business from American University of Paris - France in 1992 and a Master of Science in Finance from Brandeis University - Massachusetts, United States in 2000.
